BT Insurance was established in Australia in 1969 as a division of Bankers Trust. In 1978 the name BT Australia Ltd was formed and in 2002 was acquired by Australian owned company Westpac.

BT Insurance policies offer many features including automatic policy upgrades when superior benefits and features are available and increases to insured benefits each year based on inflation.

BT Insurance paid out over 100 million in claims to its policy holders in 2010 and was awarded for its innovation in Tele-claims service by AFA / Plan for Life in 2010. This process is the first to the market and features claims assessment conducted via phone between the insured and the claims assessor and in some cases can provide an outcome without forms or signatures.

BT Insurance has a community focus and has been a support of many community events including Earth Hour, Clean Up Australia Day and the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea.
